Challenge

The existing packaging and pricing strategy was initially simplified to attract customers and gather user feedback. However, this approach revealed several challenges that needed to be addressed to support sustainable growth and monetization:

  • Current packaging and pricing is heavily skewed towards customer acquisition, potentially hindering long-term growth.
  • The current pricing model undervalues the product's proposition and is difficult to scale efficiently.
  • Monetizing workflows is challenging due to the varying value of different workflows and the overall platform vision.
  • The wide variety of use cases regarding key metrics requires a multi-metric pricing model for effective monetization.

Solution

Collaborating closely with the Next Matter team, we developed a comprehensive pricing and packaging strategy tailored to their business needs:

  • Introduced a scalable platform fee based on functionality and workflow count, with an Enterprise Plus option for custom requirements.
  • Positioned platform users as adoption enablers rather than monetization drivers, encouraging upgrades as adoption increases.
  • Leveraged end-users as key value metrics, driving monetization through tiered fees and supporting the land-and-expand strategy.
  • Implemented monetized overage for high-volume workflow runs, preparing for a future of increased automation.
  • Designed service packages with guided support and custom development options.
  • Offered Proof of Concept (POC) on Growth and Enterprise packages to ease customer transition.
  • Balanced free trial and sales engagement strategies for different package tiers.
  • Ensured pricing transparency for platform and end-user costs, while maintaining flexibility for enterprise negotiations.

Result

Following the implementation of the new Packaging and Pricing model, Next Matter realized significant impact:

  • 3-5x increase in landing contract size
  • Natural expansion unlocked, resulting in Net Revenue Retention boost 
  • Improved ability to create compelling client offers in complex settings: from several days to within a day, enabling confident proposals during calls.
  • Significantly improved team conviction and confidence when talking about pricing
